Why Hemp?
“Together we are witnessing the evolution of humanity and consciousness.
The environment, our relationships to each other and the world around us
is evolving and so are we, as human beings.”
What does that mean?
It means that in order to be in harmony with these changes, we need to evolve in our
own lives to reflect these changes. One of the most profound and important components of this transformation is the energy with which we fuel our bodies.
Botanically speaking, hemp has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.
This was only possible through its ability to adapt to change. Resilience, intelligence
and wisdom might be attributes describing such a phenomenon.
Imagine what kind of knowledge this plant must have, offering itself and making its
seed edible and available for human consumption with many health benefits. A superfood for the human body to evolve in a changing world.
Hemp is one of nature’s greatest gifts. Yet is so misunderstood and misused.
As a food it just could be natures most perfect a plant food source. No other plant offers such a rich source of perfectly digestible protein and essential fatty acids necessary for our lives. Not to mention it contains low glycemic carbs too. The best kind for balancing internal sugar levels. It is also rich in vitamin E, iron and many other essential nutrients. Unlike many other vegetable proteins it is non allergenic.
The Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids it contains help metabolize fat. With all this going for it some would think it might taste bad but no! no!! NO!! It has a fresh nutty, buttery flavour that tastes great on its own or to enhance just about any meal. Every home should have a giant shaker of hemp at the table so we can add to just about everything we eat.
Hemp clothes us with a natural fiber that is stronger and more durable than cotton. Manufactures are now using hemp to create building products. It’s light and inexpensive, strong and has good insolation properties.
Hemp is fantastic to the environment. It does not require as much water as other crops such as wheat and unlike most commercial crops, thrives with very little or no fertilizer. It’s roots condition the soil. If that was not enough, hemp is great for our atmosphere. Each ton of hemp grown absorbs 1.63 tons of carbon dioxide. There are a number of group promoting hemp as a climate solution. (more on that here)
Hemp can produce four times more paper per acre than trees and hemp is sustainable and grows in most temperate climates. Hemp can even be made into fuel. An acre of hemp will make 1000 gallons of methanol. The carbon dioxide released from burning hemp fuel will equal the carbon dioxide it absorbed during its growth period. This creates a closed loop cycle with a net effect of near zero extra carbon dioxide being added to our atmosphere.
So lets sum it up:
- For our basic needs: Hemp can feed us, clothe us and provide shelter and fuel to keep us warm.
◦ It can improve our health by providing essential nutrient not always available to us.
◦ It can be a medicine because it contains powerful anti inflammatory and healing properties that are available in its raw state so it is not necessary to take expensive pills or medication.
◦ It can make paper and help clean our atmosphere.
◦ With so many benefits to hemp, why aren’t we all using hemp. Why isn’t a major crop all over the planet.
◦ We all know why: Hemp’s relative marijuana is the bad guy. There are many arguments about the good and bad of marijuana and we are not going to get into that here. We need to change that for our own good. The only way is through enlightenment.
We all need to learn more about hemp and then we need to spread the word. I continually surprised how little is known about this glorious plant.
How can you help? Study hemp, try hemp products, and tell your friends to do the same. Let make it a movement for the good of humanity and our precious planet.
